Creed Bois du Portugal | Honest Fragrance Review

Masculinity at its most virtuous – Creed Bois du Portugal Fragrance Review

In this article, I’ll be providing a review on Creed Bois du Portugal a fragrance by the house of Creed as evident by the name.

Creed Bois du Portugal is a perfume that is very different from what Creed is known for now. Having used Bois du Portugal on skin a few times, I can honestly say I was mistaken in avoiding this one for a long time. The scented lavender, bergamot, and cedar wood blend together flawlessly in a fluid, almost liquid-like manner on application, drawing one in instantly. The transition to the somewhat powdery woody center is seamless, and genuine sandalwood is thrown in for sweetness and balance. If the perfume has a flaw, it’s in the darker, more minimalist woody late dry-down. It still smells great, it has an old school DNA but its built upon a solid foundation, and so I deem this fragrance timeless.

Creed Bois du Portugal is a fragrance that strikes the perfect balance between being citrusy, herbaceous-spicy, and woody. A bright and airy bergamot with strong english lavender, and whitish-powdery herby mossy tones. The opening starts quite lemony, and is quickly accompanied by the cedar present in the fragrance. It is somewhat dry, but never piercing. Surprisingly, the vetiver is loud without becoming pastel as in other perfumes; instead, it clings on to the cedar, and exists in cohesion with it.

Bois du Portugal isn’t going to blow anybody away with its creativity, but it does a fantastic job at smelling nice and classy at all times. It is a very lovely, light scent that, despite its summariness, is suitably for use throughout the year. It is an elegant manly fragrance.

Backstory

It is rumoured Bois du Portugal was the signature scent of Frank Sinatra. Creed’s Bois du Portugal is an amber woody scent for men that is inspired by the aromatic forests of Portugal. Bois du Portugal first opened its doors in 1987. The term millesime is a quality indicator that appears on several CREED scent bottles. The millesime mark denotes that the greatest harvests from a year were utilised to create that specific bottle of CREED scent.

Creed Bois du Portugal is a woody-rich perfume that evokes the feelings of the Iberian Peninsula’s fragrant woodlands. This manly scent is inspired by the French word bois, which means “woods.” This robust fragrance is noted for its silky refinement, and is the essence of a classic mens fragrance. Bergamot is the top note, followed by Lavender, Sandalwood, Cedar, Vetiver, and Ambergris as the middle and base notes.

Review

Creed Bois du Portugal is a scent that smells like lemons, lavender, and sour cedar. It’s lovely, classy, gentlemany, and old-fashioned. Following the initial spray there’s a subtle sweetness that comes from the amber. The sandalwood softens the aroma and perhaps makes it a touch creamier. The Vetiver note appears to be the only one that you are unable to detect. The fragrance lasts a long time, with the exception that the lemons loses a little strength over time, and the lavender becomes more herbaceous and spicy, making the aroma even more reminiscent of old-fashioned colognes from the past.

The aroma of Bois du Portugal remains the same after its initial dry down. There are no new notes that appear, so maintains the same character. The strength of the lavender progressively fades in the base, making the perfume look even softer. The woods get somewhat stronger, and the amber becomes slightly sweeter, giving the aroma more warmth, and overall a pleasant vibe.

The DNA of Bois du Portugal is noble, magnificent, aristocratic, and regal. It’s an authoritative and powerful scent, combined with its debonair macho grace, it sets itself apart from most other perfumes.

This scent is what you WANT, and EXPECT a guy with experience, knowledge, poise, integrity, compassion, and gravity to smell like. It has a lovely, engulfing smell. This fragrance is dependable, always-there-for-you perfume that you can rely on day in and day out. In the best manner, it’s like a man we’ve all looked up to in our lives. I suppose, the association many have with this being a ‘older guy’ fragrance is because of the protective, bold, calm demeanour it portrays.

How is the sillage. and longevity of Creed Bois du Portugal?

Creed Bois du Portugal has great projection, and average sillage. The performance of the fragrance is amazing, and it performs especially good when compared to other offering by creed.

The lifespan of the Bois du Portugal is exceptional. I can get around 7-8 hours of solid use from this fragrance. Moreover, the fragrance keeps it character throughout its lifespan, and delivers on it promise of keeping you smelling like a gentleman. The fragrance is an ok value for money, considering it smells opulent, and very elegant. However, it’s just difficult to justify paying a large sum for the bottle, just because of other duplicates on the market that offer a similar experience.

How versatile is Creed Bois du Portugal?

Creed Bois du Portugal is an aromatic, earthy, and woodsy fragrance. Bois du Portugal gives me an image of oakmoss, earthy moist soil, sun-drenched treetops, tree bark, pine trees, clove, and tree sap. Bois du Portugal, in a nutshell, smells like the wide outdoors and lush green woodlands.

Creed Bois du Portugal isn’t a perfume for clubbing. The Bois du Portugal DNA is just too solemn for that. Creed Bois du Portugal, in my opinion, is far too rigid, serious, and “businesslike” to be employed in a clubbing or partying setting.

It has a more official feel to it, yet it’s a really versatile scent. It would be acceptable to wear Bois du Portugal to a black tie event, a casual stroll, or a hike in the countryside. Bois du Portugal can be worn all year long regardless of the seasons. It’s just a well crafted, old school, gentleman fragrance. I’d recommend this perfume to people above the age of 35. It has a very distinctive character, that is suited to mature individuals.

Creed Bois du Portugal is a classic male scent that will never go out of style. Bold, forceful, woody, fresh, somewhat soapy, polished, creamy dry down, and exceptionally well-rounded. It is a great fragrance, if you are looking for that one scent that works for all occasions, and seasons.

Conclusion

Creed Bois du Portugal is an elegant, no-nonsense, old-fashioned, ultra manly, traditional, stuffy, and possibly even “aristocratic” smelling fragrance. Despite its elegance, it’s strangely unremarkable in its traditional, and down to earth nature. However, Creed Bois du Portugal is a very magnetic and charismatic fragrance that draws me in, and makes me sort of addicted to the scent profile.

One of the finest men’s perfumes of all time, and arguably a masterpiece. The scent preserves it’s crisp, and clean masculinity. It is evocative of a bygone period, whose remains I eagerly anticipate on reliving.

I hope you enjoyed my review on Creed Bois du Portugal by Creed. As always, if you’ve found the article interesting don’t forget to share it with others. I’d love to know about your thought on Bois du Portugal in the comments. Take care, god bless, and keep smelling fantastic. 🙂
